Lunch Today: Fish Fry

Fish Fries always seem so sentimental. My family never traditionally had a Friday fish fry like some families I know did. BUT I did work for a restaurant that had a special Friday menu with a Friday fish fry. That was one of my favorite parts about working there on a Friday night-at the end of the long night working I could drive home and eat some Lake Perch with potato pancakes in the parking lot of the church across the street.

So today for lunch I made Lake Perch with cheesy skin-on mashed potatoes (just like the mashed potato casserole the restaurant/inn would serve) and a mini salad.

The inn and my family (when we did the recipe) would make a beer-battered perch, but since I can't get that on my own quite yet, I found another recipe that worked out just great.

Beer Batter Recipe:
1egg
1 cup warm stale beer
1 1/8 tsp baking powder
1 cup flour
1tsp salt
¾ tsp pepper
1 tsp garlic salt
fish filets
cooking oil
1. Mix all ingredients except fish.
2. Wash and pat dry fish with paper towel
3. Heat 2 inches of cooking oil in pan over moderate high heat.
4. Dip fish pieces in batter, fry in oil, turning as necessary.

The "non-alcoholic" recipe:
1 tbsp. vinegar
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. milk
1 c. all-purpose flour
1 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
Fish fillets
And the directions are the same.

Breakfast Today: Heart Pancakes

Another recipe from the .zip cookbook my parents sent me.

Martha Stewart eat your heart out...

literally.

2 Eggs
1 Cup of milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract (optional)
1 Tbsp. sugar
1 cup+4 Tbsp. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
Chocolate chips or other filling (optional)
Mix and pour on hot griddle. Flip. Eat.

Excited for Spring Break

Tomorrow is my last class before spring break starts, and I can't wait! I will be going home for spring break (even though I wanted to go to Scootland :c) and so I'm going to try to see as many people as...well as wanted to see me I guess. I'm also excited because I'll be getting a LONG OVERDUE valentine (you know who you are), as well as a surprise that I can't post here right now but that I might possibly, maybe post in the future. We'll see. Let's just say it has to do with a current favorite obsession of mine.

And speaking of long overdue valentines, I forgot to put up the one I made, so I'll post it now!

Talk about cute!

Mini Collages

I kind of like this little guy, but at the same time I don't. The strawberry should be on the other side. The type is in between structured and all zany and completely not structured. But it's pretty cute. And it's one of the first ones like this I did.

I just made this one today, and it made me laugh a lot. Check out the back:

I like these little collages. Tiny and humorous, but not as dry as a newspaper funny. I started doing them and saw Synecdoche, NY and now they kind of remind me of Adele's miniature paintings. Which is totally the kind of art I love. Liddle stuff.

I'll probably be doing a lot more of these in the future.

Oh Happy Dayyyy!

Reasons I am having an amazing day:
1. The weather is SO INCREDIBLY nice today. It makes the street smell like hamburgers and hot pavement rather than frozengarbagesmoke.
2. I had drawing today and handed in this:

I wasn't too proud of it coming in, but my professor really liked it. Here's my awesome drawing professor:

And this here is his website.
3. I also made a hilarious mini collage today (I'll put it in a later post today) and in drawing our next assignment is a schematic drawing
4. I found the most hilarious book at Strand which has been added to my slowly growing collection. It's called "Margaret's Cooky Book" and it's full of cookie recipes. This is Margaret:

5. I didn't have 2-D today(that's not the good part), but I ran into my 2-D professor, Paul, on the street. It was completely random since we were no where near the school! This may seem like nothing big to anyone reading this that lives on an actual college campus, but because my campus is basically all of Lower Manhattan (well, at least let's say from around Chelsea to Alphabet City since those are approximate limits of the different dorms)so it was a little weird and funny. He's also awesome, and his blog is right here.
6. The song "Happy" came up on Pandora (also completely random). This second in time describes my day.

Hope everyone's day is just as great as mine is!
