The posts have been missing from the last few days because internet was down at the dorm. And then I was out pretty much the whole day Sunday with Jordan and pals, and Monday I was back to strenuous classes. But I'm back in Mequon now with much to blog about! So you all can expect more from me in the near future.

Yay!

Classes

Class registration was this morning! My roommate and I were freaking out, so we sat at our computers way before 8 am, eagerly awaiting the minute to change. As soon as it did we both signed on and surprisingly, got in without any problems and signed up for all the classes we wanted. My schedule is as follows:

3D Plaster Cast

We had to take a cube, and use it to show mass somehow. I went really small and made a cute lil cast. I like it because it's both organic and synthetic. My professor said it looked kind of like a little tv.

Along with that thought I think I'm gonna add wires through the hole and up over the top. Sadly I only have copper wire because I think I lost my brass wire.

Funny thing about this is that I got to cast first in the class so I didn't even use my own plaster and now I have about 4 pounds of it. I'm thinking that all my friends this year are going to get plaster gifts...I'm also thinking that once I go home for Thanksgiving (LESS THAN A WEEK NOW!), I'm going to bring back my forms for doll faces, hands and feet to cast and some fabric scraps to make dolls! So much fun!

Feminine MET buttons

For some reason, every time I go to the MET I always get the girly colored buttons. HMMMM...

I have to do a project on it, and instead of going to important anarchist areas like I was supposed to, I went into an old-timey candy shop. Typical.

No Post

Yesterday was...WOOOO...a little too crazy to handle. At least in the night. I got back at about 5 am, and had to ride the subway with Jordan and a bunch of people (I didn't know them, but apparently they wanted to steal our shoes? Or were at least talking about stealing our shoes).
Today was not much better, as I have to write a 6 page paper and I only have 2 so far. It's going to be a long night of procrastinating.

Lab

I'm in my lab class right now, and seeing as we don't do anything in this class (really, one class they gave us a two hour break, another class we slept the whole time, last class we went on group field trips and my group ended up going grocey shopping), and seeing as I just found out how to use the WiFi at school, I'm blogging! And skyping with Tess at the same time!

While we were making it we did a scene in Times Square, and we were so miserable at the end of the nasty rainy day with all the tourists, that we decided to get cupcakes at this place on 18th St. called Cupcake Cafe. The frosting on the cupcakes is much less sugary and grainy than the ones at say, Crumbs Bakery or Sugar Sweet Sunshine, though those places are equally amazing.

WHAT THE FOCK!

The gallery in Milwaukee that my dad shows at (gallery 218) was nominated by the local paper, the Shepherd Express, as one of the best galleries in Milwaukee. Because Art Kumbalek is a weekly contributor to the Shepherd Express, and also sometimes appears in those annual "Best of Milwaukee" issues, he was at the event held at the gallery.

Luckily, my mom spotted Art wandering around or something, and snagged him for a photo. I'm insanely jealous!

I'm sure anyone who reads the Shepherd as religiously as I do (or did back in Milwaukee) understands why I love this man so much. In short: he's hilarious.

Paper Dolls

So for fusion this year I submitted my application as a paper doll. The people who were reviewing it were apparently unable to realize they had to actually cut out the clothes, but that's okay, because now you can! (Note: she is topless, yes. Be a little mature about it...)

The different dolls are:
-Russian doll
-Barbie doll
-Raggedy Ann doll
-Porcelain doll

I also had a creepy goth kind of doll, but it wouldn't fit in the scan.

MMMM pie!

I bought a delicious pumpkin pie from Associated Grocery for all my suitemates (and myself). Special for fall! Special for yumminess!

We had a cute little pumpkin we stole from the hall (it was some decoration or something) sitting on our table and it fit so well with the cute little pie that I took the photo of both together. AREN'T THEY SO ADORABLE TOGETHER? If anyone wants to draw a few little hearts between the two, I think it'd be appropriate...

What I really can't wait for is pumpkin pie made by my parents FROM SCRATCH when I come home for Thanksgiving. My mom makes the flakiest crust by keeping the butter cold, and my dad makes the filling scooped from the pumpkin by hand. It's gonna be great!

Art History

I'd love to have posted more today, but I've been working on my paper and annotated bibliography for my art history class. I have to compare two works, of completely different cultures, during the same century, with something in common.

I chose a Greek (Euboean) skyphos (wine cup)

and a Fou (bronze wine container) from the Zhou dynasty in China.
SO EXCITING.

I got a super duper amazing package from my parents! yeah! it's got candy in it! and a really cute card!

In other news, I keep avoiding my homework and going out instead. Antichrist last night was crazy, I highly recommend it. Though I didn't watch the famous "clitoris severing" scene...I looked away for that second. But it was a good movie. Crazy. Crazy good.
I've been watching movies all of today, and saw The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Itty Bitty Titty Committee, SLC Punk, Prom Night, and Matilda. I then went out to a diner, even though I had already eaten dinner. OH BOY. I should really start that homework...

Sorry I didn't post yesterday-I was working pretty much all day and then got in a fight with my roommate. She isn't really talking to me now, but no more on that.

Lots of work this weekend, and I'm about to go to the new Lars von Trier movie Antichrist with Gaby and her boyfriend, Kevin. We'll see how that goes!

Dinner Tonight: Pesto without a Food Processor

I got this recipe from 101cookbooks.com*
I love it because I don't have a food processor-only a knife and my dreams. Actually the knife is my roommate's...

1 large bunch of basil, leaves only, washed and dried
3 medium cloves of garlic
one small handful of raw pine nuts
roughly 3/4 cup Parmesan, loosely packed and FRESHLY GRATED
A few tablespoons of extra-virgin olive oil
Special equipment: large mezzaluna for chopping
Start chopping the garlic along with about 1/3 of the basil leaves. Once this is loosely chopped add more basil, chop some more, add the rest of the basil, chop some more. I scrape and chop, gather and chop. At this point the basil and garlic should be a very fine mince. Add about half the pine nuts, chop. Add the rest of the pine nuts, chop. Add half of the Parmesan, chop. Add the rest of the Parmesan, and chop. In the end you want a chop so fine that you can press all the ingredients into a basil "cake" - see the photo up above. Transfer the pesto "cake" to a small bowl (not much bigger than the cake). Cover with a bit of olive oil, it doesn't take much, just a few tablespoons

They suggest using a mezzaluna instead of a knife, but I don't have one-like most college students-so I use what's available.

3D

I enjoyed making this. Mostly. I based it off of Johannes Kepler's theory of the solar system, which was the idea that all these polyhedrons-which fit inside each other-correlate to the planets in the solar system. Now we know that was a heap of crap, but it's still interesting.

I thought it came out pretty well, though A's and B's are given out in comparison to other people in the class, in which case it suffered a bit.

What I said before about grading in only half true. Really we're graded on craft, concept, and our presentation board. I got a B+ on the craft and board, and an A- on concept! WOOHOO! Go me!

Brooklyn Day

I spent a lot of the day in Brooklyn, since my brother lives there and it was his birthday. We had a Halloween party last night, so I slept over in his apartment and we went to the aforementioned birthday brunch at Stone Park in Park Slope. I don't think I had ever eaten their eggs before, but with the famous biscuits and gravy, they really hit the spot...MMMM! Before actually leaving the apartment though, we got to cheer people on in the New York Marathon. I didn't get up early enough to see the elites, but I cheered on some runners who truly needed the motivation and hopefully made their run a little easier.

I went back to finish homework and other boring stuff, but by night I was back in Brooklyn to another Park Slope restaurant, Al Di La (apparently the Italian word for heaven, or purgatory, I'm not sure. That's just what an Italian girl told me once). I ordered the Malfatti, which was of course delicious, and then hobbled back to the subway station.

I swear the train took an hour to get back to the city! But I'm home now, and ready for class tomorrow...ugh.
