Until then, more 2D madness with a collage I did. I think it came out pretty neat.

Collage
I forgot to mention that the big 36x6" painting I did was submitted by my professor to the foundation year display cases. GO ME! But I forgot to put an update of that while I was home working on it, so you'll have to wait until I can snag a photo.
Until then, more 2D madness with a collage I did. I think it came out pretty neat.

Lunch Today: Fish Fry
Fish Fries always seem so sentimental. My family never traditionally had a Friday fish fry like some families I know did. BUT I did work for a restaurant that had a special Friday menu with a Friday fish fry. That was one of my favorite parts about working there on a Friday night-at the end of the long night working I could drive home and eat some Lake Perch with potato pancakes in the parking lot of the church across the street.
So today for lunch I made Lake Perch with cheesy skin-on mashed potatoes (just like the mashed potato casserole the restaurant/inn would serve) and a mini salad.

The inn and my family (when we did the recipe) would make a beer-battered perch, but since I can't get that on my own quite yet, I found another recipe that worked out just great.
Beer Batter Recipe:
1egg
1 cup warm stale beer
1 1/8 tsp baking powder
1 cup flour
1tsp salt
¾ tsp pepper
1 tsp garlic salt
fish filets
cooking oil
1. Mix all ingredients except fish.
2. Wash and pat dry fish with paper towel
3. Heat 2 inches of cooking oil in pan over moderate high heat.
4. Dip fish pieces in batter, fry in oil, turning as necessary.
The "non-alcoholic" recipe:
1 tbsp. vinegar
1/2 c. water
1/2 c. milk
1 c. all-purpose flour
1 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
Fish fillets
And the directions are the same.

SORRY GUYS
I know I said in that last post I was going to write while at home, but my priorities were more focused on getting work done and seeing old friends, which I guess I didn't realize while I wrote that. I just wanted to reassure all my readers (all two of you) that I was still going to post in the future.
Thing is, I haven't had much to post about, not only because I haven't actually had time to write, but because I haven't been doing anything post worthy, except working. Right now is two weeks from the end of my first semester, so it's really "crunch time" in terms of working hard. So when I have free time (rare) I'm working on cutesy little projects (which, yes, I'll put up here eventually) some of which include more cute drawings I did, collages, a mini-book I made, yummy dinners I've created, and maybe a school project thrown in, as well as ACTUAL things I've managed to do or see, like the holiday market in Union Square, my kinda-sorta date thing (maybe I won't tell you about that actually...), a show in Bushwick, the BUST Holiday Craftacular, my CRAZY lab project (which is still in the works), and hopefully the cutest lil farm puzzle ever (if I get around to doing it), and also things I've found around like the two books which I'm planning on reading over break, a birthday card (it's pretty special), and my giant free goody bag.
All will be explained, dear readers (all two of you). So sit tight and wait during the next two weeks, after which all my posts will burst forth like the blog flood gates have been opened.
P.S. I'm also sorry for that long run-on sentence.

Back Home. WITH INTERNET.
The posts have been missing from the last few days because internet was down at the dorm. And then I was out pretty much the whole day Sunday with Jordan and pals, and Monday I was back to strenuous classes. But I'm back in Mequon now with much to blog about! So you all can expect more from me in the near future.
Yay!
Yay!

WHAT THE FOCK!

The gallery in Milwaukee that my dad shows at (gallery 218) was nominated by the local paper, the Shepherd Express, as one of the best galleries in Milwaukee. Because Art Kumbalek is a weekly contributor to the Shepherd Express, and also sometimes appears in those annual "Best of Milwaukee" issues, he was at the event held at the gallery.
Luckily, my mom spotted Art wandering around or something, and snagged him for a photo. I'm insanely jealous!
I'm sure anyone who reads the Shepherd as religiously as I do (or did back in Milwaukee) understands why I love this man so much. In short: he's hilarious.
check him out!
